  M17 Reflector
Posted by: AD8DP - 02-10-2020, 06:55 PM - Forum: Reflectors - Replies (19)

Hi,

I'm really interested in this project.  Are there has been any plans for an Internet reflector yet?  I saw the hostpot project and talk about tests sending/receiving UDP frames on Github.  Maybe it's too early for this, but I'd like to add M17/Codec2 support to my DUDE-Star/DroidStar software (details on QRZ) that allows network based RX/TX, similar to BlueDV and friends. It would be a good way to get a thorough understanding of Codec2 and the M17 protocol, before I get my hands dirty and start building some hardware.

Why is M17 better? -- Maybe it can have RSSI / Power Control information
Posted by: WA4OSH - 02-07-2020, 04:50 PM - Forum: Technical - Replies (2)

I'm really tired of people connecting to repeaters asking for a signal check?  How well are you making the repeater?  Kerchunk the repeater or hotspot should and it should be able to tell you during the squelch tail how well you are being received and your radio should be able to set the minimum needed power out to make the trip at full quieting.

Can those "empty" bits in the voice stream in the squelch tail be filled with RSSI measurements and power control information?

Does anyone have mmdvm board and can help me? I have a problem with writing to ADFs registers. I can provide a hex for STM reflashing.

  TR-9 Frequencies?
Posted by: N6NZ - 01-29-2020, 05:53 AM - Forum: Technical - Replies (3)

I have been poking around the FAQ's, etc, but can't seem to uncover what frequencies the TR-9 is targeting?  The AD7021 looks like it could hit US ham bands at 144, 220, 440, and 900 MHz. It looks like it just misses the 4m band that some of Europe has. What is the project going for as a first target?

  Overall Spec?
Posted by: ozindfw - 01-26-2020, 08:51 PM - Forum: Technical - Replies (3)

So far all I can see is framing information.  Where is the PHY described?  Are variable coding schemes supported?  Interleaving? Is it C4FM or some other modulation scheme?

  Access control mechanism for repeaters
Posted by: md - 01-03-2020, 02:24 AM - Forum: Technical - Replies (1)

We have discussed it in the irc a bit but, it is nice to have it here. Open for everybody's comments.
-First, repeaters must have their own private key. Which is only known by repeater owner, maybe even less.(just repeater itself, if we find a secure way to distribute personal keys)
-Repeater owner or repeater itself should generate personal keys for each callsign using a hash function. ie. sha(callsign+repeater_key)
-Radio's should include this personal keys in their air data packets using another hash function. sha(data_itself+personal_key+session_id/date/time etc.)

Pros:
-Repaters do not have to keep userid/key pair. Just a banned list is enough.
-Users can be added without programming repeater.
-Callsign theft is prevented.
-When session id in the hash function is used, injection attacks are prevented.
-When time/date used, replay attacks are prevented.
-Further, repeater sourced session id will solve both problems.

Cons:
-Real time hash calculation for each packet is required.
-If some of users share their own key accidentally and insist on using exactly same callsign, repeater key must be changed. So, all users have to update their keys.
